Muse Fest HK 2025 Special Series

Shenzhen-Hong Kong Hakka ICH
Hakka Architecture Guided Tour & Hehu Xinju 3D Model Workshop

Co-organised by the Shenzhen Museum and the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office, this programme will introduce participants to Shenzhen's Hehu Xinju Walled Village and Hong Kong's Sam Tung Uk, illuminating the Hakka architecture and related ICH of both cities.

Built during the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, Hehu Xinju is one of the largest Hakka walled premises discovered in China. It embodies the architectural essence of Hakka walled village houses across Guangdong, and exemplifies the castle-style fortified structures in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong region.

During the workshop, participants will explore this architectural treasure through assembling a 3D model of Hehu Xinju, gaining insights into the customs and concepts of Hakka communal living endowed with the humanistic spirit transcending eras.
