Japan is known worldwide for its firm and meticulously formulated policies in safeguarding and promoting its cultural heritage. Traditional art and crafts are still highly acclaimed in modern-day Japan. With the continuous refinement of craftsmanship, knowledge, skills and styles achieved by Japanese craftsmen, the tradition of treasuring, preserving and promoting art and crafts has been passed on from generation to generation.

 

Featuring about 100 exhibits of traditional art and crafts on loan from Japanese master artisans, including ceramics, metalwork, lacquer work, paperwork, woodwork and textiles, the exhibition "Inheritance – The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Japan" takes visitors on a journey to explore the charm of the intangible cultural heritage of Japan. We have also enlisted the support of local craftspeople to lend us 15 stunning exhibits, including painted porcelains, papercraft and woodcarvings, to showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of local intangible cultural heritage practitioners. A series of talks and live demonstrations will be held in the Exhibition Hall on weekends.

 

The exhibition is listed as one of the highlight events of the Japan Autumn Festival in Hong Kong and Hong Kong Culture Festival.
