"Fun in ICH" Series – 2022
Online Guided Tour – Sam Tung Uk in Hakka Dialect
Sam Tung Uk Village in Tsuen Wan, now revitalised as Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Centre, was originally a 200-year-old Hakka walled village. Along with its well-preserved traditional architecture, the ICH Centre showcases the lifestyle of a rural village in the old days. For two weeks in a row, in this bilingual online guided tour (Cantonese and Hakka dialects), linguist Professor Lau Chun-fat will take visitors on a tour of this Hakka walled village to introduce the history and architectural features of Sam Tung Uk and various aspects of Hakka living culture, like food and festive customs, as well as enhance the understanding of the Hakka dialect as a Hong Kong ICH Item.

Talk on "Herbal Tea in the Community: Development and Transmission of Herbal Tea in Hong Kong" (Hybrid Format)
In association with the Hong Kong Museum of History
Hong Kong's food culture has been influenced by both localization and globalization. In terms of daily life, Hong Kong not only inherited the traditional culture of the Lingnan region, but was also deeply influenced by the ideologies of modern Western society, such as industrialization, consumerism and popular culture. This talk covers the transmission of herbal tea, by sharing findings about the production of herbal tea in traditional villages and the communities in the New Territories. It also explores Hong Kong people's perception of herbal tea after the Second World War, and examines the significance of herbal tea as part of the intangible cultural heritage of Hong Kong, and even the country.

Talk on "Folk Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH): Experiences in the Research and Conservation of ICH in Hong Kong"
In association with the Hong Kong Museum of History
The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2006, and Hong Kong subsequently pledged to preserve its local ICH. So far, the ICH Inventory of Hong Kong and the Representation List of the ICH of Hong Kong were announced, and twelve local ICH items were inscribed onto the National List. Cantonese Opera was even inscribed onto the UNESCO's Representative List of the ICH of Humanity. A local system of ICH has gradually been formed. This talk discusses the concept and formation of the ICH system in Hong Kong from the perspectives of research, preservation and local society.
