Public Programme
"Tradition x Contemporary: Steamer Making Technique and Bamboo Art" Talk

The "Oi! OnSite: ORGANs" exhibition not only integrates contemporary art into a century-old building but also brings intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into the community. The first solo exhibition of the young bamboo artist Inkgo Lam, who learned from the master of Hong Kong bamboo steamer Lui Ming, presents her imagination of the five "ORGANs" of the body and the Oi! Warehouse with bamboo artworks. Her creative inspiration and techniques are derived from Hong Kong's ICH──steamer making technique.

Steamers are made of bamboo, which can be transformed into a wide range of craftworks. Through bamboo art, artist Inkgo Lam builds a bridge between the past and the present, tradition and innovation. In this talk, master Lui and Inkgo will introduce steamer making techniques, and explain how to apply traditional technique to contemporary art respectively. Master Lui will also demonstrate the making of the bamboo steamer, allowing the public to understand local ICH.
