''Cultured Bay Area, Brilliant ICH — 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intangible Cultural Heritage Show'' Exhibition

 

 

"Cultured Bay Area, Brilliant ICH — 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intangible Cultural Heritage Show" is jointly presented by Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao. Its first stop, "Celebrating National Day — Auspicious Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Greater Bay Area" Exhibition has been launched on 19 October 2024 in Hong Kong. Shenzhen taking over as the second stop, coinciding with the successful inscription of the "Spring festival, social practices of the Chinese people in celebration of the traditional new year" onto the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an intangible cultural heritage (ICH) event focusing on the Chinese New Year celebration in Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is organised. The exhibition displays more than 300 ICH exhibits related to the Chinese New Year (also known as the Spring Festival) in the GBA cities. Exhibits on Hong Kong ICH items are also showcased, including Cantonese opera, Hakka unicorn dance in Hang Hau in Sai Kung, Hong Kong cheongsam making technique, paper crafting technique of lantern, Guangcai (The Canton Famille Rose Porcelain) making technique and etc.

 

Through the six sections of 'Appreciating Spring in the Bay Area - Watching a Cantonese Opera Together', 'Celebrating the Year and Welcoming the Spring - Drinking a Cup of Tea Together', 'Celebrating the Year of Spring - Appreciating the Glory of an Implement Together', 'Enjoying a Fine Evening in Spring - Appreciating a Flower Lantern Together', 'Snake Leaping in Spring - Appreciating the Long Tradition of Art Together' and 'Cultural Creations Enlivening the Spring - Enjoying the New Arts and Crafts Together', the exhibition features a wealth of interactive scenes that will bring to life the joys of the GBA Chinese New Year, vividly presenting a beautiful picture of cultural integration in the GBA.

 

 

 

 

Performance at Opening Ceremony

The ICH Office as the curating organisation of the exhibition, has invited the Hong Kong Nanyin (Southern Tunes) troupe "The Gong Strikes One" to perform the classic piece "A Wanderer's Autumn Grief" at the opening ceremony of the exhibition and to present to the guests with this narrative song art in the Cantonese vernacular.
