Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage – Exhibition on Traditional Paper Crafting

Date: 1-6 March 2018 (Thursday to Tuesday)
Time: 6-11 pm
Venue: Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza

For the Lunar New Year Lantern Carnival 2018, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office is presenting an impressive display of lanterns in a lion dance tableau, which blends two ICH items – the paper crafting technique and lion dance – into one. 'Lion Dance' is an item on the first Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory of Hong Kong, under the category of 'Performing Arts'. The lion head is also an important item under the category of the paper crafting technique. On this occasion, vivid lanterns depicting the dynamic leap-and-bounce movements of dancing lions are created by local master craftsman in the field employing their consummate skills. We hope that while visitors admire the stunning display of luminous lion dance lanterns, they would also appreciate the effort of the craftsmen for their immaculate execution and attention to detail, as well as the importance of perpetuating our local heritage.
