This two-day carnival serves as the inaugural event of "Muse Fest HK 2024", a collaborative effort by various cultural sections within the Leisure and Cultural Services Department including the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office. Programme Details of the ICH Office

2 November 2024 (Saturday):

 

 

Events conducted on that day are progarmmes of the Kick-off Activity of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme's funded project "ICH Everywhere". It aims to promote local ICH through interactive multi-media and multi-dimensional promotion activities. ICHO will conduct Facebook livestreaming from 2:20 pm to 3:00 pm on that day. The public is welcome to interact with various ICH bearers online.

 

 

"Vital Lion Dance" Opening Performance

Lion dances are often seen at traditional festivals, deities' birthdays, weddings, ceremonies and on other occasions. Each lion dance team has developed different styles and forms of performance for the lion dance with their own charm. Kwok's Kung Fu & Dragon Lion Dance Team is invited to present a magnificent duo lion dance performance accompanied with live gongs and drums, to kick off the Hong Kong Muse Fest 2024.

"Lion Dance Fascination" Interactive Booth

Members from the lion dance team will introduce the history, cultural connotations and various techniques of lion dances alongside a display of lion heads. The public has a chance to brandish the lion heads to try out the lion dance movements, thus being able to experience this ICH item that integrates martial arts and performing arts. A vivid lion dance photo point has also been set up for the public to take photos.

"Puppetry Encounters!" Performance

Puppets can be categorised into rod puppets, string puppets, glove puppets, shadow puppets, etc. The veteran puppeteer group, Wong Fai Puppet Shadow Company Limited, will perform using various types of puppets from classic titles including Daming Prefecture, Zhong Kui Getting Drunk, Sun Wukong Thrice Beat the Bony Demon, etc. Audiences can explore and enjoy the charm of this local ICH item by appreciating the puppet shows.

"Arts in Flower Button" Demonstration & Workshop

Flower buttons refer to the toggle buttons, made from narrow strips of cloth, of cheongsam and traditional costumes. The combination includes knots, door buttons, neck buttons and coiled flowers. The styles are ever-changing. There will be two sessions of demonstration of flower buttons, allowing the public to get a closer look at this traditional handicraft of ICH. The public can also try making their own flower buttons in workshops.

"Qilin Dance Fascination" Display & Workshop

Qilin (Chinese unicorn) is an auspicious animal that can ward off evil and bring good luck. The local communities perform the qilin dance to celebrate weddings, festivals, deities' birthdays and ceremonies. The public can learn more about the features of qilin and its cultural connotations through making a simple postcard. There will also be a display of qilin heads for the public to get close to and try putting on.

Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance – Dragon Parade in 18 Districts

The "Mid-Autumn Festival – The Pok Fu Lam Fire Dragon Dance" has a history of over a hundred years and is in the Representative List of ICH of Hong Kong. Villagers of the Pok Fu Lam Village in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island carry out fire dragon dances during every Mid-Autumn Festival to pray for the well-being and peace of the community. "Pok Fu Lam Village Mid-Autumn Festival Fire Dragon Dance – Dragon Parade in 18 Districts" is one of the funded projects under the Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme. This time, the fire dragon dance performance will be brought to Tsim Sha Tsui to show a glimpse of its historical and cultural significance. The public and tourists can join the parade of the fire dragon dance as well as spread joy and blessings to others.
