The technique of making crafted lanterns is one of the items in Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage list. It is a folk craft with a long history and has historical, cultural and artistic value. On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival and family reunion, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office has invited Mr Hui Ka-hung, a veteran paper crafting master, to craft exquisite lanterns in the shape of phoenixes and peonies, with the theme "Phoenix Dancing with the Full Moon to Celebrate the National Day". The theme means auspiciousness and abundance, and would like to take this to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. You are cordially invited to gather at the Urban Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival this year to enjoy the colorful and lifelike lanterns. While celebrating the festival together, you can also appreciate the unique charm of Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage.

The above programme is also one of the activities in the Chinese Culture Festival. The LCSD has long been promoting Chinese history and culture through organising an array of programmes and activities to enable the public to learn more about the broad and profound Chinese culture.
