Hong Kong Cheongsam Heritage Salon

The origin of the cheongsam dates back to decades ago and it became popular during the early Republican period. After World War II, many tailors moved from Shanghai to Hong Kong. As a result, the Hong Kong cheongsam making technique was enriched and Western sewing skills were taken up, resulting in the uniqueness of the technique. The Hong Kong Cheongsam Making Technique was inscribed onto the list of the representative items of the national ICH in 2021.

The "Hong Kong Cheongsam Heritage Salon" focuses on the transmission and practice of cheongsam making technique, and the art of flower buttons and brocade. It also explores the relationship between cheongsam and Hong Kong society, rituals, festivals and Chinese music. The event aims to promote this national ICH through panel discussion, keynote speech, display of transmission work and exchange. It also aims to celebrate the excellence of traditional Chinese culture.

Programme details will be announced in May. Please stay tuned.
